The Wamps work with the American Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter on First Aid with CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator)Training for Adults (no child component).
Find out more information about training sessions by visiting this link:
http://riredcross.org/index.php?pr=Stand_CPR_AED-Adult
Training takes place over the course of two evenings in the offices of the Red Cross on Gano St. in Providence You must attend BOTH classes to receive certification in CPR/First Aid. We cannot split classes to receive certification in one or the other. Minimum of 6 participants are required with a maximum of 16 allowed. Please respond ONLY if you can attend both classes. If we have a large number of responses, we will offer another session to accommodate all who are interested, as long as we can meet the minimum requirement (dates to be determined).
Many companies will reimburse for these certifications and are often lenient with allowing for time off to attend training classes, so check with your employer. Classes will start promptly at 6:30. We will need to arrive 15 minutes early to gather and fill out paperwork. The cost is $60; checks made payable to the Wampanoag Road Runners and will be collected on the night of the first training.
This is quite possibly, the best gift...the gift of life, to give the friends that you run with and their families, your co-workers and relatives. Please contact Sandy

TREK 2008 Relay for Kids
Here's a quick shout out from one of our fellow Betty/Wamps that is planning to participate in the Trek 2008 New England, Kim Ashworth. The New England piece of the relay is being organized by Dave McGillvray and benefits The DMSE Children's Fitness Foundation, which supports non profit programs that use running as a primary means of promoting physical fitness in children. There is lots of interesting information about this undertaking, so please go to
http://www.trekusa.org/ to learn more about it.
Kim is participating in the Gold level (7 days) relay and would love to have some runners from the Club join the team. 2 runners run together 3 times a day for a total of about 15 miles. The planning portion of this relay is being organized right now, so if you are interested, please let Kim know.
KimAshworth@comcast.net This is a great way to help programs that help kids and at the same time, get some serious miles in.
An excerpt ........
The 2008 TREK USA Charity Relay for Kids is a 10-day running adventure through the six New England states from May 9 to May 18th, starting and ending in Boston, MA. The purpose of the annual TREK event is to raise money for The DMSE Children's Fitness Foundation (DCFF), which supports non profit programs that use running as a primary vehicle to promote physical fitness in children.
There are four team levels (Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze) for TREK 2008 ranging from 3 days to 10 days. As in years past, each runner will be hand-picked and committed to running an average of 15 miles a day. In addition to the mileage commitment, each runner is required to raise a respective dollar amount depending on his or her team member status. All TREK team members will receive an online account through Active.com to assist in fundraising efforts. Thank you for any consideration.
