Letter from the President
-
2007 is in the books; and 2008 is off to a rousing beginning. January saw Wamps and Bettys alike beginning to pile up mileage in preparation for the Boston Marathon. At last count 45-50 club members will be toeing the line in Hopkington. February saw the OFTM reach new heights; with several Olympic caliber runners competing and a new women’s course record. Thank you very much to Dave Donnelly for all his hard work as Race Director. Lots of behind the scenes work by Dave and the rest of the Board have turned this into the top winter race in the area. A special thank you to all the volunteers who gave up a Sunday to lend a hand; you are very much appreciated.
The coming months will see the Grand Prix rev up; as club members vie for supremacy. Keep in mind; Monique has decided to take on even greater challenges; so it’s anyone’s race. Also, Ron Farkash has successfully converted several Wamps to the new world of trail running. Many members now peel off into the woods around George street for a new and interesting challenge on their Sunday run. Additionally, many members are arriving early on Wednesday nights(5:30) to add some additional miles before the regular 6:15 run. Sandy’s Saturday runs are swelling to record numbers. We may need to authorize funds to add a wing onto her garage!
This summer the Wamps will be defending our title in Marshfield; so hit the track with Coach Elgar in May and surprise yourself with how fast you become. Check out the website to keep abreast of what’s going on with the club. Updates on Pretfest, Fitzfest and the destination Fall marathon will be posted; as well as links to Rob Rose’s column.
There’s a lot going on in the club; so I’ll see you on the roads…track…or even the trails!
Sincerely,
Sean "PWOTY" McNamara
