BOSTON MARATHON with THE WAMPANOAGS
THE RACE
The club organizes bus transportation to transport runners to and from the Boston Marathon. In the past, they have rented a hotel room at the finish line for runners to shower and change. They have also had a person available for massages. There is a fee for this, and the bus usually fills up quickly with club runners have priority over non-club runners for seats on the bus.

THE LOTTERY

Here are the criteria for the lottery which is held each year during the annual Wamponaog Holiday party for the following years Boston Marathon race:

  1. Be a club member in good standing for one full year
  2. Dues paid for next year
  3. Have run a previous marathon
  4. Have volunteered at a club sponsored event in the past year

For 2007, we will continue with a weighted NBA style lottery.  In this manner, a runner gets an entry in the lottery drawing for each club activity in which they have been involved or volunteered during the previous year.  These activities include jobs such as club sponsored race support, water stations, board of director positions, etc.  One marathon entry will be automatically awarded to the runner who has accumulated the most "entry" points during the calendar year the lottery is held.

People who have done more than the minimum criteria would be eligble to have more than one name in the lottery as follows:

  1. Old Fashioned Ten Miler race volunteer - 2 entries
  2. Any additional event volunteer - 1 entry
  3. Board member - 5 entries
  4. Cooridinate a club project such as the BAA water stop - 3 entries
  5. IronWamp - 2 entries

For anyone interested, please contact Roland Desroachers at ronan262@yahoo.com to let us know what events you have participated in or have volunteered for.

THE BUS
The Wamps will again be traveling to Hopkinton in style come April (how you get to Boston is up to you) with our luxurious bus transportation.  For those of you who are unaware, we take a bus to the start of the marathon from DB sports in the morning (it has its own bathroom, no porta potty lines to deal with).  But that’s not all, accompanying us on the bus is a massage therapist to help loosen you up before the race.  The bus will then transport our gear, and the massage therapist to the Marriot Copley where we have a room that allows us to use the health club to shower and is stocked with food and refreshments, plus the massage therapist.  Once everyone is finished with the race, the bus will then transport us back to DB Sports in comfort.  There is no better way to get to and from the race.

Sign ups are at DB Sports and the cost is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. This is for runners only and we are only allowing club members to sign up first, and will open it in a few weeks to the general public. Sign up now to reserve your seat!
