Here are the criteria for the lottery which is held each year during the annual Wamponaog Holiday party for the following year's Boston Marathon race:
- Be a Wampanoag club member in good standing for one full year
- Dues paid for next full year
- Have run a previous marathon
- Have volunteered at a club sponsored event in the past year
We use a weighted, NBA style lottery. In this manner, a runner gets an entry in the lottery drawing for each club activity in which they've been involved or volunteered during the previous year. These activities include jobs such as club sponsored race support, water stations, board of director positions, etc. One marathon entry will be automatically awarded to the runner who has accumulated the most "entry" points during the calendar year the lottery is held.
People who have done more than the minimum criteria would be eligble to have more than one name in the lottery as follows:
- Old Fashioned Ten Miler race volunteer - 2 entries
- Any additional event volunteer - 1 entry
- Board member - 5 entries
- Cooridinate a club project such as the BAA water stop - 3 entries
- IronWamp - 2 entries
We will make one award to the person who tallies the most entries into the lottery. That runner will automatically receive a Marathon waiver. For those that do not meet the minimum eligibility criteria for the lottery, but are still interested in a waiver, we will keep an alternates list. After the lottery for the qualified runners is completed, any remaining waivers will be awarded to runners on the alternates list. Runners will be placed on the alternates list starting with those who have attained the highest number of criteria met and continuing down the list to those with the lowest number of criteria met.
For anyone interested, please contact Roland Desroachers PRIOR TO THE ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY to let us know what events you have participated in, volunteered for, or to list criteria met for those seeking entry on the alternates list. |
