THE RACE
The club organizes bus transportation to transport runners to and from the Boston Marathon. In the past, we've rented a hotel room at the finish line for runners to shower and change. We've also had a person available for massages. There is a fee for this, and the bus usually fills up quickly with club runners having priority over non-club runners for seats on the bus.

THE LOTTERY

If you enter the lottery and your name is chosen, your entry is NON TRANSFERRABLE. It CAN NOT be given to another Club member, or any one else,  if you cannot run the Marathon on Monday, April 16, 2012.  Please be sure that there are no conflicts with this date and that you are sure that you will be able to train accordingly for the Marathon.  The Wamps are granted Invitational Entries because of the support that we give, as a loyal running Club to the BAA.  The entries are not only important to the runner that receives the Invitational Entry, but to our Club.  Every number that is not used is noted by the BAA. So, therefore,  if it not used by the person selected, for some reason, we run the risk of NOT being granted that entry the following year.  Again, please be sure you can commit not only to meeting all the criteria necessary for the lottery, but that you are able to "commit" to running on April 16th!   The lottery will be held at the Wamp Holiday Party in December (date is TBD). If your name is selected for a waiver, you must fill out the entry along with payment for registration so that  entries can be mailed in the next day. Thank you and good luck!

Here are the criteria for the lottery which is held each year during the annual Wamponaog Holiday party for the following year's Boston Marathon race: NOTE: These will be strictly adhered to for all lottery entrants.

  1. Be a Wampanoag club member in good standing for one full year
  2. Dues paid for next full year
  3. Have run a previous marathon
  4. Have volunteered at a club sponsored event in the past year

We use a weighted, NBA style lottery.  In this manner, a runner gets an entry in the lottery drawing for each club activity in which they've been involved or volunteered during the previous year.  These activities include jobs such as club sponsored race support, water stations, board of director positions, etc.  One marathon entry will be automatically awarded to the runner who has accumulated the most "entry" points during the calendar year the lottery is held.

People who have done more than the minimum criteria would be eligble to have more than one name in the lottery as follows:

  1. Old Fashioned Ten Miler race volunteer - 2 entries
  2. Any additional event volunteer - 1 entry
  3. Board member - 5 entries
  4. Cooridinate a club project such as the BAA water stop - 3 entries
  5. IronWamp - 2 entries

We will make one award to the person who tallies the most entries into the lottery. That runner will automatically receive a Marathon waiver. For those that do not meet the minimum eligibility criteria for the lottery, but are still interested in a waiver, we will keep an alternates list. After the lottery for the qualified runners is completed, any remaining waivers will be awarded to runners on the alternates list. Runners will be placed on the alternates list starting with those who have attained the highest number of criteria met and continuing down the list to those with the lowest number of criteria met.

For anyone interested, please contact Roland Desroachers by NOV 27th. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.  NO ENTRANTS WILL BE ACCEPTED INTO THE MARATHON LOTTERY ON THE DAY OF THE DRAWING AT THE WAMP HOLIDAY PARTY (date is TBD).  Let Roland know what events you have participated in/ volunteered for, are a member in good standing with dues paid for the next full year and have run a previous marathon; or to give him the partial list of criteria met for the alternate list.

THE BUS

The Wamps will again be traveling to Hopkinton in style come April with our luxurious bus transportation. For those of you who are unaware, in the morning, we charter a bus to the start of the Marathon from DB sports (it has its own bathroom, no porta potty lines to deal with). The bus will then transport our gear to the Marriot Copley where we have reserved a room. This allows us access to the health club to shower and the room is stocked with food and refreshments. Once everyone is finished with the race and has reported back to the room, the bus will then transport us (and our PRs) back to DB Sports in the same style and comfort in which we departed. There is no better way to get to and from the big race!

$35 FOR CLUB MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING. We want to make sure ALL CLUB MEMBERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET ON THE BUS. You can sign your non-club member friends up on FEB 1 when it will open up to the public. Fee for NON-CLUB MEMBERS IS $60. Get to DB Sports and sign up now. **The bus is FOR RUNNERS ONLY. Availability is on a first come (sign up) first seat basis.
