The Wampanoag Road Runners running club is open to all levels of runners.  We currently have over 200 members and are growing everyday.  The club is dedicated to creating a supportive community of runners. We organize group runs, plan races, train together, volunteer, and have a lot of fun.  So whether you're a long time road warrior, a casual "jogger", or merely contemplating taking up the sport for the first time; come join us on the roads, tracks, and trails as we chase that elusive "runner's high".

This humorous observation pretty much sums up our obsession:  "Those Mad People That Run"

Winter 2014

Happy New Year and Happy 30th Anniversary to the WAMPS!

It's not hard to believe that this amazing Club has been around for 30 years! It's strength is based on incredible members doing many different things, supporting and encouraging each other, no matter if they are new or have been around a long while or what their goals may be. GO WAMPS!

2013 was a year of inspiring "firsts" for many WAMPS. A first run which led to consistently joining in on group runs, track workouts or volunteer opportunities to maybe a member racing a first 5K, half or full marathon or how about that first, well-deserved PR? Unfortunately, with the good of the "firsts" came more than a few unfortunate and unforeseeable losses, cancellations, tragedies, injuries and disappointments suffered by far too many of us. We said good-by to Bill Dunphy, a founding father of the WAMPS and Laurie Blake, a long-standing member who adored the WAMPS. We will miss them both. For the fist time in 18 years, due to unsafe weather conditions, we had to cancel the OFTM. Disappointing finishing times, after much hard work and training, debilitating injuries and illnesses that kept members from doing what they joined this Club for, were more prevalent than many members cared to realize! WAMPS still persevered.....

It's still impossible to properly put into words how the tragic events of the Boston Marathon effected the 55 WAMPS that started in Hopkinton, the 30 WAMPS that worked the 12M water stop, all of the WAMPS at home who were extremely concerned and waited for news that all members were returning home safely, along with their friends and families that were at the finish line....it's just simply impossible..... So what's a runner to do? Remain strong! Look to the future! Learn from our mistakes and as well as our accomplishments. Try something new. Revisit something old. Do something that's a bit of a stretch. Lend a hand. Embrace all that 2014 and the WAMPS have to offer! Not sure what you're looking for? Contact me at president@wampanoagroadrunners.org so we can welcome the new year in together!

Wishing you a happy, healthy 2014!

Happy Running,
